This Is England--Title Sequence Montage Presentation

This is England: Title                               Sequence Montage

Representation of 1980's England:
The Montage opens with archive footage of Roland Rat, a popular children's television show character in the 80's.

The song '54-46  Was My Number' by Toots and The Maytals plays over the Montage. This genre of reggae music was popularised in the 1980's as it was adopted by the growing 'Skinhead' community

Archive footage of Margaret Thatcher, followed by strikes and riots represents the political views of the English public during Thatcher's run as Prime Minister.

Footage of run-down council housing, the speeding train crashing into the barrier and a number of street brawls further shows England's poor state due to bad management.

The footage of an old arcade videogame and the popular American television show Knight Rider represents England's adoption of American culture as well as the rise in technology.
